Real Brides: Jodi

I loved getting to know Jodi, a bride who requested a custom wedding dress recently. We began by talking about what she had in mind for her gown. Usually I have the bride show me some pictures of gowns they like to get a feel for what they have in mind. We then began to hone down the details to get a firmer idea for her 'dream gown'.

Jodi's bouquet has the most gorgeous roses in soft shell pink shades.

We made the gown fairy-like and wispy with an asymmetrical hemline and details and a soft silk bodice. The skirt was lace over a cream base. I love the flower crown she created to accent the laced back. The straps were soft tulle and cream silk. The bodice back laced with sheer chiffon that trailed down to the ecru chiffon tie at the waist.

Jodi wanted a custom ecru tie for the groom, Don to flow with her colors. I love how the color accents his shirt and pants and how they all come together to compliment her gown & flowers.

It's always such a wonderful experience to see the gowns I've created on the bride at the wedding. I especially loved getting to enjoy Jodi's and Don's pictures and share vicariously in their happiness.

Summer Weddings...What About The Guys ?

I had a contact recently send me an infographic on what guys wear to summer weddings and I've posted it below.

Women seem to stress over wedding attire a lot, but guys seem to be mostly oblivious. With the exception of a few guys, ties are not a favorite in my limited experience. Guys like easy, comfortable and no fuss dress up clothing.

Linen pants, cotton or linen button down short sleeve shirts with pleats. Love the rolled up pants !

Now some guys work in corporate offices and dress every day, but few guys seem to relish getting togged up on their days off. The consolation usually is the wedding food and dancing :)

My experience is that wedding parties these days are tending more casual, beachy and low key. Bowties are big. Vests and rolled up sleeves on long sleeve shirts and boots or converse tennis shoes are pretty universal. Bolo ties are big in Texas.

Note the long sleeves, vest and untied bowtie :)
Beach and island weddings seem to skip ties - even for the groom - in favor of a lightweight button down shirt in linen or rayon with minimal color or print. Usually a cream or white, maybe pale blue. Sometimes a light graphic or textural element is added. Pants may be linen and loose for beach or jeans or other dark pants otherwise. If anyone has a take on this, please share !

So Sarah !!! Finding the Right Wedding Photographer Series

Finding the right photographer is mostly about style....and emotion. You want someone who'll see what others miss at the wedding...those poignant moments that go by as a blur but are treasures. So a photographer has to be intuitive. They have to think with the heart and mind and capture it beautifully. It's a pretty tall order !

So I thought I'd do a little series on photographers I've seen or known whose work captures something special in the day of a wedding or an engagement shoot.

Photographers record the sweet moments of the day that get all but forgotten in the crazy busy rush.

So I thought I'd post a few wedding pics from a personal friend Sarah Webster of Sarah Isaac Photography. Sarah's sweet, blond and petite and a lot of fun. She does a range of photo shoots from families, engagements, high school senior pictures and especially weddings. You can find Sarah at her site : Sarah Isaac Photography
